Moisture causes a leak in the air conditioning system. They create a vacuum in the system to remove any moisture that may be in the device. Then the correct way to add freon is to connect the refrigerant to the yellow hose and through the connector connected to your gauges, remove all the air remaining in the hose until the refrigerant starts to splatter. Make sure there is no moisture in the line. These pressure gauges do not include this valve and are therefore not suitable for filling coolant when packaged. I had to buy a $10 piece to put between two Schrader valves on top of the yellow to make sure I was getting the job right. They are great for diagnostics and for creating a vacuum, but do not add coolant. what's the point. If you're looking for a full suite of sensors to use when opening, these aren't the ones. Also, the detailed manual they mention in the description just tells you there are 3 hoses that need to be screwed onto the sensors and then explains how to test your AC system. There is no explanation of what each adapter is for, no detailed parts list, no company phone number or even company name. The front of the box says "Brass Pressure Gauge" and that's it. These are very cheap sensors that are only suitable for diagnostic purposes.
