As a standard zoom, I think the Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 is a better fit. As a landscape painter - a completely different matter. This is where sharpness is needed. The angle is simply gorgeous, almost fisheye! And who prevents it from being used on a crop as a landscape painter? Nobody.
