I recently read an article that burglars would rather break a window than try to open it because if a neighbor hears a noise, he stops and listens to the second sound. If nothing comes, they are going about their business and someone is in your house. I have a couple of windows on the side of my house that are difficult to see due to the railing and I wanted to alert them when the glass is broken (this device does NOT detect when someone tries to open your window - it's a completely different alarm system). When my order for this product came in, I read the instructions and it's pretty easy to prepare the device for placement - I notice that it didn't turn on right away because the instructions didn't tell you to open and remove the battery should tab. I figured it out myself and as expected the LED on the unit blinked and then beeped and they were armed. You tear off the sticker on the back and stick them on the window. I liked that there was a sticker on the back of the unit warning that the window is alarmed - any extra security is good. They stuck to the window very well and as my windows are double glazed I set the alarm on the bottom glass then banged the top glass and the alarm went off. You don't really have to bother both panels, but if it makes you feel better, do so. I like that the LED doesn't stay on, which helps extend battery life. For the price, this is an excellent level of security. It's not sensitive enough to trigger false alarms in high winds, but it responds accurately to significant vibrations in the glass. Very satisfied with the product. UPDATE 6/1/13: During a recent hailstorm, the vibration of a hailstone (not a very large hailstone, maybe the size of a nickel) hitting the windows set off an alarm. My neighbor ran onto the porch with her phone ready to call the police. These things work.
