Sometimes you can break the rules

One day a lion wandered into Miss Merryweather's library. He started snooping around and soon found a story corner where he sat and listened to the story with the children. He enjoyed listening to the story, but when it ended he growled loudly. This resulted in a reprimand for a lack of noise pollution in the library. The next day the lion returned and behaved better. The lion soon became a library mascot of sorts, helping with things like dusting encyclopedias, licking envelopes, and cushioning children's storytelling. All of this dismayed Mr. McBee, the librarian, who felt there was no room for a lion in the library. . The lion tried to help but couldn't understand what was going on. He ran to Mr. McBee's office and yelled at the top of his voice to get his attention. Instead of seeing what was going on, he scolded the lion and threw him out of the library. Mr. McBee went to Miss Merryweather's office and found her lying on the floor. The doctor healed Miss Merryweather's arm, but the lion, discouraged by Mr McBee's cry, left the library. Miss Merryweather was sad that the lion didn't come anymore. Sensing Miss Merryweather's sadness, Mr McBee went in search of the lion. He explained to the lion that he was still not allowed to roar in the library, except in an emergency. Luckily the lion was back in the library and everyone, including Mr McBee, was delighted. My daughter got this book for Christmas and she loves it. The images are bright and detailed, and the plot is interesting. As a librarian, I can only imagine what I would think if a lion walked through my door. I just hope that if he did, he would be as nice and helpful as the one in this story. I give this book my highest recommendation. It's easy to see why she has won various children's book awards. The message it conveys is good too; sometimes it's okay to break the rules.
