The amount depends on each person's hair, so you need to experiment a little. My hair is 2.5 to 3 inches in front and I use this product to lift my hair while standing up. All I have to do is dip the pads on my index and ring fingers. I massage it into my hair like a shampoo and then style it. I have to experiment with how wet/dry your hair should be when applying. I personally have to wait about an hour after showering and towel drying my hair before applying this stuff. It gives me the perfect balance of hold and softness. I use a sulfate free shampoo and it rinses out very easily. Other products I have used in the past do not wash out properly with this shampoo. Finally, other reviews have mentioned that it has a light apple scent. Hairspray with a subtle hint of apple lurking in the background.
