I currently have a similar product from another manufacturer that I have been using for about five years with no problems. The only reason I bought this is because I've been transferring terabytes of data from potentially failing drives lately. If you know your hard drive is fine, there are no bad sectors on it, and you just need to transfer data from one drive to another, this adapter will work just fine. However, consider buying a different adapter if you have a failed drive that you want to recover data from. I've tried scanning WD, Seagate, and HGST drives with this USB to SATA adapter and they all seem to give the same result: the drive disconnects and disconnects from the computer. I thought the drive itself might be bad, but when I used my old adapter it worked fine, it showed a few bad sectors, but I was still able to copy data off the drive (albeit slowly because it was USB 2.0). I even tried using a different power supply and the result was the same. I returned the product in exchange for a new one of the same product and with the same result. This leads me to believe that this USB to SATA adapter may have a legacy design flaw. I've used WD Data Lifeguard Tool and SeaTools with similar results.
