I bought this set as an upgrade for a 5 year old. I prefer heavy cutlery and it was too hard for little hands. For them, this set works perfectly. He is smaller than an adult. Not "little kid". Light weight but not as light as plastic/bamboo. I think it's perfect for my needs as a transitional set to complete adult cutlery control. It's adorable, features animals like the picture, and is gender neutral enough for boys or girls while still being cute. It's so cute my 10 year old loves it too. Although boys may not want to use it as they get older. Because my 9-year-old boy categorically refused. He said it was too cute and he didn't need any more baby stuff. Only you can judge whether your child will like it.
