Review on Standard Motor Products ALS205 Sensor by Kev See

doubtful size for Saturn

I bought this for my 1998 Saturn SL2 1.9L DOHC. I had to replace the left front axle and needed a new ABS sensor as the original sensor broke trying to remove it from my old axle. The lights don't come on so the sensor registers and I assume my ABS is working fine for now and driving with no issues. But I had a heck of a lot of time to install it. The part of the connector that goes into the spindle didn't seem to fit properly. Like he's a little big. I had to drill out some of the gaps in the spindle to install it and it was still very tight even with some lube. I was sure I would break it if I tried to put it in, he was VERY stubborn. I had to use it somehow. It was very difficult to hit and doesn't seem ideal for Saturn. It should be a very quick and very easy job. Instead I ended up breaking my feet/knees on the side of the road trying to screw in this sensor for half an hour under the scorching sun. I didn't want to lug my car into the garage, put on my work clothes, and crawl under the car just to connect the sensor, which should have taken five seconds. Confirmation that this works for now, but I have to deduct a few stars because they don't match. I can't nail it too tight because of that either, but I'd appreciate it if it came with a screw too. My original was so rusty I couldn't even take it off. I found an M5/10mm metric screw at Home Depot that seems to fit perfectly in the original hole drilled in the Saturn spindle. If your bolt is broken/damaged/lost, try an M5 at HD or another hardware store. You have a hex head screw and a Phillips head as you like.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • doubtful
