Review on Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Fixed Lens - Discontinued by Manufacturer by Bali (hambali) ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Average quality of the product, especially for the money.

Good value for money. When autofocus hits, the picture is just great, but the need for constant focus control after the shot gradually begins to strain. I took an ef 40 f / 2.8 stm to replace it, now fifty dollars is gathering dust on the shelf. Who cares - for my purposes, aperture 1.8 is practically not needed. Who needs it, and there is no money for f / 1.4 - feel free to take it, I recommend it. And the last thing: after a half-hour "shamanism" with this lens, a specialist from an authorized SC took it out to me and said bluntly - you, they say, threw money away, it would be better if you saved up more and took f / 1.4. He also added that he was ashamed that Canon is still producing this model. Who cares - I do not consider this purchase useless: firstly, it will give you the opportunity to take good pictures, albeit with difficulty; secondly, buying f / 1.4 for a triple price without trying it and not understanding whether you need it at all is not very reasonable in my opinion.

Pros
  • Luminous, inexpensive. There are no problems using filters - when focusing, the front of the lens does not rotate.
Cons
  • The only real downside is the problem with autofocus misses. Approximately 30-50% by - the result after adjustment in an authorized SC (you can do it yourself by unsoldering the contacts - see on the Internet), before that it was somewhere around 60-80% by. Such a spread is due to the unpredictability of misses: sometimes a series of shots hits the target, then it misses the series. I chose among three new (unopened) copies in two stores - a waste of time, this is a purely technical problem, it is present in all (or 99%) of the lenses of this model. The rest is quibbles.
