I bought my first Beam over a month ago. I drive a Ford Escape that has vertical bars or louvers for the fan design (see photo). Most car mounts rely in part on the gravity of the horizontal ribs to keep them from sliding down. However, the fan fin grip that locks the beam in place uses thin foam pads to grip the fan fin ribs and keep them stable. However, due to the nature of the vertical slats, the phone's weight causes them to wobble back and forth while driving, moving with every slight turn of the steering wheel. I used one of those plastic car fragrance sticks that also go over the air vent as a stabilizer (see photo). It works perfectly. As for gripping my phone, a Samsung S10 encased in a screen protector, the Beam has thick rubber foam pads on the grips to hold my phone. A button on the back extends the spring-loaded grips and you simply pull them together to tighten around the phone. They snap in on their own. I am so happy with the Beam car mount that I bought my wife a second one.
