There were no problems opening the 3 flaps while using a screwdriver and twisting. Do not use a battery powered screwdriver/drill which has too much torque and may break the keys. My only complaint about this product is that the holes are not tapped to fit a mount. You will be drilled to assemble the bolt and nut, but you can't attach the nuts because the light gets in the way. Usually these holes are tapped and you just screw the mount in. I ended up just removing 3 valves and installing them on an old junction box I had (which I previously broke with a cordless drill to install), use a screwdriver and twist slowly and you shouldn't have any problems.
