Did we get the physics right?

Great product, works like magic. But hey, did we get the physics right? Is it instead possible to get maximum tensile strength by threading small screws (first) through the base wedge and then (second) through the outer ring? I'm asking this knowing that the threads on the base wrench are slightly larger than the bolts themselves, which allows for unwanted movement, not to mention the hassle of holding the ring in place when it's attached to the pulley itself.
