Review on πŸͺš WEN BL1280 12-Inch 80-Tooth Woodworking Saw Blade for Miter Saws and Table Saws - Exceptional Fine-Finish Performance by David Sidman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent fit, finish, sharpness and cut quality

I have a Bosch GCM12SD slip plane miter saw and it is an amazing woodworking machine. But no matter how good your saw is, it's useless, dangerous, or both with a bad blade. As my grandfather told me long ago, "As soon as you see magic smoke coming out of the saw blade, get rid of it immediately." I've owned very expensive saws, mostly Forrest, as well as "smaller" brands like Amana, Freud, etc. Forrest is pure marketing gibberish, but that's a topic for another review. The only advantage of these tall blades is that they can be sharpened multiple times. But for $100-$200 for blades plus $25 for sharpening plus fiddling with the actual grinding process, what's the benefit over a $25 blade that you can just recycle and put in a new one? And there's no point in sharpening a $25 blade for $25. I used this wen blade to smooth the trailing edge of the 16" wide, 1.25" thick granadillo live rim plate you see in the photo. Granadillo is a Central American hardwood that has become a substitute for Brazilian rosewood, whose export was banned about 25 years ago. It's a tough material but I've had no issues, no "fairy smoke" and a clean cut edge, all good. I've used this Wen blade to cut figured flamed maple, stone maple, oak, granadillo which I just mentioned and installed 400 linear legs from baseboards - both pine and ash. It cuts smoothly, leaves a pleasant finish, does not burn, does not smoke, does not leave marks from the blade and other anomalies. Hope that helps!
