Felt edge too short

This filter fits my dryer perfectly, but the felt edge barely protrudes beyond the frame. The only reason I've been looking for a new filter is because the felt rim of my old one is a little compressed. This felt is important to keep the lint on the filter and prevent it from going into the dryer. The measurements given in the photo description are true. My dryer is about 11 years old, it is the Maytag Bravos 400 series, model MEDB800VQ0. A few months ago my dryer started making an unacceptable noise. When the dryer was taken apart I was a little shocked to see how utterly dirty it was, covered in a thick pile. It took me several hours to work with ear swabs to get to the areas around the engine after vacuuming two inches of lint from the entire underside of the car. Amazing that the car started at all. After that experience, I vowed to do everything in my power to avoid lint. I always cleaned the lint filter after each load and when loading lint. I also regularly took the filter and housing out of the dryer, vacuumed everything I could get my hands on and also cleaned the outside air duct. I thought I was doing house security. Very annoying is that the bottom of the dryer is not accessible for normal cleaning. The only way to get at it is not only to remove the front, but also to remove the drum. I was hoping that the new filter would offer a tighter fit on the filter housing. I don't know what else to do, but I don't want my dryer to die and I don't want my house to burn.
