This is my first NAS. It was pretty easy to set up by following the quick start guide, but I encountered some setup difficulties along the way. For those who might buy this device, here are some things you should know so you don't make the same mistakes I did: Hardware warnings: 1) If you buy x72XT, make sure you also have a right-angle screwdriver to have. If you want to insert M.2 cards into the x72XT, you need to remove this Thunderbolt card. There can be an inch of clearance between the Thunderbolt card and the bracket above it. 2) Also, if you're inserting M.2 cards, make sure you're ready to remove any labels the manufacturer put on the chips. Buying a new NAS, 2 new M.2s and hard drives is quite difficult and the first thing you need to do before doing anything is put a blade on top of your M.2 card. 3) Also be careful with M.2 cards if you want to use them as read/write cache. Starting with the heap heap on the NAS, the M.2 alert will heat up even if their heatsinks are on the controller. I'd recommend using it as a read cache until you've completely filled the NAS with what you're backing up, then changing it to read/write when you want to read/write what's there. a guided setup that is more or less intuitive. Setup will take a while and then prompt you to sign in. It fills in the username with the name it gave the NAS (e.g. NAS8384). You need to change this to admin. I did not understand it; I just kept typing the password I gave him and was constantly told it was useless. I had to reboot and reboot my device. 5) If you're setting up a Plex app, make sure you're doing it over a non-Lightning connection. x72XT gives you 2 IP addresses, 1 for Lightning and 1 for the network. Plex setup will fail if you set it up while Thunderbolt is connected - it won't be able to find that server. It was a reset for me too :(Other6) You may find that all your App Store icons are gone. This is actually an ad blocker issue, not a QNAP issue. Clearing the cache worked for me in Firefox, and Edge still worked. I still can't get them back under chrome. 7) As QNAP reminds you, if you want to use their Q-Cloud to access your NAS from elsewhere, remember that all data goes through their servers. There is something to consider. 8) Tech support has email support and can even run real-time diagnostics, but it's not really up to date. I think the Qnap forum is the more likely place to get quick answers. Finally, when you're trying to set up a $1,500 NAS with $1,600 disks, $400 M.2 and so on, waiting X working days isn't really your preference. So 4 days later I set it up and mostly loaded it. If I knew the above, it would take 1 day. Otherwise it appears to be a good device, if not a little noisy when accessing a range of hard drives.
