Review on Lang Tools 2584 15-Piece Metric πŸ”§ Thread Restorer Set: Restoring Threads made Easy by Michael Wiley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Saved me from a major overhaul!

I bought these because I work on an old machine, they've saved me a few times! The ones that look like screws rethreading something are the most useful when you use them (sometimes you have to be very careful when the threads are clogged), they clean and straighten the threads well. I recommend them over a faucet because they're harder to turn. If you cut the tap across, you'll end up cutting out a whole second set of threads that will be much weaker than the originals. Because they are closer to a standard screw, you can "feel" them when you drive them in properly. On a really bad one, you might have to twist it a few turns, back, a few turns, back, and repeat to the end. I've used it successfully on aluminum and cast iron. The ones that look like nuts that you thread a little deeper onto a bolt or screw than I'm comfortable with might be for a different thread spec or something, but I prefer the attached file (the black thing below). to clean and reuse the screws if they are really not damaged. My only complaint is that based on this listing the packaging looks good enough for permanent storage and it's just cheap plastic - you'll need to get something nicer for permanent storage.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
