I'm already buying the second set (the previous one lasted me for four years), and even though it was still possible to drive on it, I had to replace one of the tires because it got a screw in it. Even though it was still feasible to drive on it, most of the spikes were still in place. I didn't even give other tires a second thought when I was buying them (although I do travel quite a bit, so I do have something to compare them to). Even taking into account the pricing of today, it is completely justifiable. There is no such thing as a tire that meets both the criteria of comfort and safety.
