
Okay, the cable itself gets five stars. Win10 is much smaller. Puppy Linux (Tahrpup 6.02) immediately recognized the printer and started printing whatever was in the queue due to a failed attempt with the universal converter cable. Win10 sees the printer through this cable. The printer wakes up but prints an error message, not what I want to print. The driver obviously doesn't like it. I used HP's generic 64-bit Windows driver. He's still trying to find a driver he likes. And no, automatic updates don't help, my Microsoft Win10 Magical Pixies are on strike. UPDATE: Okay, I was wrong in believing the claim that the generic PLC6 printer driver works for PLC5 printers. The generic PLC5-only printer driver is not available in Win10 drivers, but it is available in HP Win7 printer drivers. Downloaded and installed. The printer now prints under win10.
