Just installed this on my 1988 Mercedes 300E with 147,000 miles. I decided to replace the voltage regulator because I had intermittent electrical issues such as: B. a jumping fuel quantity needle. As you can see in the photo, the old governor brushes are worn out. A NOTICE. I didn't have to remove the alternator to replace the regulator, but I did disconnect the negative battery cable, which should be done. I also used zip ties to compress the brushes (see photo) and then installed the regulator. After assembly, I cut through the clamp and pulled it out "slowly".
