Synthetic fibers keep falling out

I love the look of this playmat but what really frustrates me is that every time my child touches it it gets covered in small wavy synthetic fibers that are especially hard on his clammy hands sticking are constantly drawn to the mouth. Washed a few times, the problem has not gone away.

Pros
