Okay, now I'm a dad and my daughter wins a goldfish at the carnival. So I went from a 5 gallon tank to a 16 gallon tank and now a 29 gallon tank. Now everyone who understands fish knows how dirty goldfish are, they are the most terrifying. I fed an aquarium with about four goldfish, two trumpet tails and two tiger mullets once a day with Tetra Goldfish Flakes and then Tetra Goldfish Tropical Crisps. Fish love Tetra Flakes and especially chips, but despite my best filtering efforts, the water started to discolor after a few days and I was changing the water about 50% a week. I tried different filter media in my 3 stage filter system, I upgraded the pump to allow more water to flow through the system and no matter what, after 7 days the water was cloudy and dull. I'm just a dad, no fish expert, but one night I tell my wife we're out of cereal and she brings home this Wardley meal. After a water change I started feeding her Wardley cereal once a day and voila! no dirty water! Well, to be fair, another thing I did was replace the faulty clogged air stone and increase the circulation in my tank with a circulating pump. Since changing my filter media I have found that the fish produce about a third less waste when using Wardley feed, so the combination of the right feed, good water circulation and proper aeration has been key to my success. Thanks to my dear wife for not knowing what to buy, in this case it was a winner! See, I would have spent almost $160 on an external 5 stage large filtration system, so putting in the "right ingredients" saved me a ton of money. Please note that I also recommend using Tetra Easy Balance Plus once a week to maintain the pH of the water and avoid nitrate build-up. I also use Fluval Zero-Carb Ammonia Remover (goldfish offal produces a lot of ammonia so it's good to have something special to deal with it) and charcoal in my filtration system with one stage of coarse filter media to capture large debris and a two stage cleaning. Blue Marineland filter media to get the rest and some ceramic rings to grow a colony of bacteria to clean the water. And remember, it all started when you spent $5 at the village fete to win a 29-cent goldfish. what we do for the love of our children!
