warm without socks at 20-40 degrees

I never wear socks and had no idea how much wind could get through my perforated PI leather boots until I got them. Below 40 degrees they prevent cold toes. Riding in 21 degrees (average about 15 mph or 6 degrees) my toes started freezing after 30 minutes. I could easily add sheepskin linings to the shoes or wear socks, which I hate, but for the price, that's exactly what a winter bike needs.
