The base has raised lugs that hold the screw head in place while you tighten it from the back. This unit must be mounted THROUGH the mounting surface with a nut and lock washer on the other side. If you don't have access to the back, you should think about other devices. You must use sheet metal screws. There are no holes in the base for this and you need to drill a 1/8 stainless steel plate. It will eat drills. The lights are very bright and illuminate the entire area. The wires are small and break easily. All in all, this is a really solid product that will serve you well.
