Great light with good performance

β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… by AtypeCollegeStudent February 8, 2018 Great light with great performance! I ordered a planted version of the Asta 20 for my new 10 gallon aquarium. I figured I could even get it to work with a rimless tank (the specs have been updated to say it only works with a rimless tank). Well, that's bad luck unless you cut off part of the rim. I was planning to install it on a very small shelf behind the tank when I realized it would fit perfectly on my bookshelf. it's more like a headlight. I was disappointed with the color rendering of the 180Β° lens. My fish and plants were washed out. I tried 60Β° and it's great! Somehow the light is warmer and more natural with less flare. A few points: - As others have said, the dimmer is finicky. If you want to mute it, start at full volume and slowly turn the volume down. The transition from off to medium just doesn't happen - it goes from barely on to almost full. - The freshwater version does NOT come with a remote control. The pictures clearly show the contents of the box. I think some people are confused because the cardboard insert shows the remote control. I believe the remote only comes with the saltwater version but they use the same flyer in each box which gives the impression that the remote should be there. This light is powerful enough and diffuses with any lens to adequately illuminate a 10 gallon aquarium. I have medium light plants on one end of the tank and low light plants like java fern on the opposite end of the tank. I could have rotated the light to widen it and get an estimated average light across the aquarium, but I focused it to one side. My Betta loves a shady spot and I love the shadows and the different light conditions it creates. I am attaching some photos of my Betta in a 5 gallon rimless aquarium so you can see the beautiful color of his fins and plants. I also include 10 gallon photos with the backlight at full power, then dimmed slightly.
