Sturdy, reliable, and strong!

I use this headlamp every night for walking my dogs and I love it! I have another name-brand one that I loved also but after breaking it three times just by dropping it on the hardwood floors inside the house, I decided I wanted a sturdier, more reliable one for backpacking. This certainly fits that bill! This is made of aircraft aluminum instead of plastic like the one it replaced and scoffs at my clumsiness! I like the fact that it’s waterproof and I like the low-light feature, that’s the one I use the most. I was a little worried because it didn’t have a red light like my old one, but the low-light is enough to see by when your eyes are dark-adapted, but not bright enough to ruin that night vision. I also like the fact that it only uses one bigger battery (AA) instead of three smaller ones like my previous headlamp. The brightest light is REALLY bright and great for those occasions when you need it. And the variable brightness is a nice feature and easy to use (watch the YouTube videos to see how it works.). It’s easy to switch between the low light and the variable light and it has a memory so it turns on to the last setting you left it at. The only drawbacks I’ve found so far are the ease of turning it off and on (it can turn on accidentally in your pack and drain the battery, but I plan on loosening the cap enough to break the connection so it won’t do that) and the mark it leaves on my forehead when I wear it. If I loosen the headband enough to not leave a mark it slides down, so I tighten it up and live with a forehead mark for a while. It’s comfortable enough, but my previous headlamp had a plastic plate so it spread the pressure out over a larger area and didn’t leave a mark. This one has a rubberized band around the light that is flexible and soft but has a smaller footprint and concentrates the pressure. Not a big deal and I’m used to looking dorky anyway. All in all, I really love this headlamp!

Cons
  • The headlamp's battery cover can be difficult to open and close, which can be frustrating for some users
