The older I got the colder I got. I placed a double size electric blanket UNDER the sheet on my side of the bed. I can turn it on for a few minutes and warm up the bed before slipping under the covers. My husband likes to keep the temperature down at night so I don't like heating his half of the bed. And people actually sleep soundly in a cooler room, so I can preheat the bed without heating up the whole room...turn it on when I'm brushing my teeth and putting on my pajamas, then turn it off when I'm in a slip nice cozy bed. Unfortunately, my cat also digs up the toasted bed and tries to steal the warmth.
