Delivered disassembled; You have to screw the tip into the base. The base is not the heaviest, but it has never capsized. I'm a teacher and I use it to keep my students' late passes in the order I received them. Since the badges are slips of paper the size of a receipt, this paper clip works well. Spikes come with a small black cap. This covers the sharp tip but also prevents the paper from slipping off the tip. I read a review complaining that this tip is too blunt to poke through paper; I think they must have left the lid open. The tip is certainly sharp enough to pierce multiple sheets of plain paper at once (and receipt paper is thinner).
