Hope this helps someone with their calculations and expectations. My horse is a 15 hand built mustang. I ordered a large one, and although it had a long neck and a bulging shoulder, it barely fit his head. I only need this for a freestyle suit so no big deal but I will say the eye holes are very small and probably not good to keep on the horse all the time if he moves at all he might be close eye and cause an accident. This item does not have a full zip, but has a fixed chest piece that runs between the legs and has a loop through which the elastic garter is passed. This way you get all of this over your horses head every time. My Mustang handled this very well but I want to make sure people are aware of this compared to other types of hoods that don't have to be pulled over the head as much. The quality seems average to me, it's lycra so of course it's not durable and it's suitable for stable or trail horses to keep clean before a show or like me to use it for a costume regardless of the brand of the product you buy. will not change. It's basically a swimsuit for your horses head, neck and shoulders for those who don't know what Lycra is. The large is perfect for a QH or larger purebred dog. But for thick-necked, big-headed, powerful ponies in the 15-arm range, if you're happy with a neck that's too long and causes a lot of wrinkles, a big one will do. I would not try the medium on my gelding, otherwise neither the neck nor the head would fit.
