These work very well. We were able to retrieve a screwdriver and part of a minnow trap that were lost by our boat dock. I have tried some "magnet fishing" but haven't found anything interesting yet. I think I haven't tried the right place yet.One thing to be careful of.I was trying to use both magnets at once to raise something that was partially made of wood. One of the magnets slipped and contacted the other one. If it happens to you, the only way to separate them that I could find was to slide them sideways away from each other, pushing one against a fixed object, like a pole or a street curb, etc. You (or at least I) can NOT pull them straight apart! Of course, that is also the best way to remove them from any item you happen to find but that is considerably easier.
