, I am a network engineer in my first year with the company and they told me to buy toner. I never realized how much it would take to trace the cables on some of the websites I visited. The toner is a life saver when trying to trace an Ethernet cable connection from one floor to another. I didn't have the money for a professional toner (yet), so I was looking for one that would do the job as well as something more. expensive. This toner is surprisingly good value for money. I had no trouble tracing cables with this thing. It's also good for testing the strength of pairs in an ethernet cable (haven't tested this with phone cables yet). (a problem for messy server rooms with LOTS of cables running everywhere) and a weird electrical smell emanating from the unit when in use. It was a great first toner, but now that I'm a network engineer I'll spend my money on a Fluke toner. I highly recommend this for DIYers or IT pros who don't work with servers/switches as much as I do.
