Quality Tools: Stamps

I bought this set of stamps to work with firearms without fear of damaging them. It's not a tool you'll use every day, but when you need it, you'll need it. I haven't had a chance to bat anything with them yet, but there's not much that can go wrong with them. These are brass punches so they are naturally soft and if you break them you should probably use steel punches. They were well packaged, the storage bag is well made and holds the punches fairly securely. As others have pointed out, they leave brass shavings on your hands when you first touch them. I would attribute this to the knurling on the handles. Just take them all out and blow them out of the blowgun. All of the shots I received were perfectly straight and clearly well made. You can tell this is a quality instrument just by the look and feel. Honestly, I wouldn't want to hit them with a hammer, but that's what they're there for. The price is definitely not cheap. But if you take care of them and use them as intended I expect them to last a lifetime unless you are a professional gunsmith and use them daily. Very happy with this Starrett purchase. If you ever need to work with firearms I would highly recommend this set. Scratch or scrape a $1,000+ handgun with steel punches and you'll regret not paying $50 but getting it! frequently. I keep them in my gun cleaning bag and use them to disassemble and clean my AR rifle. Ideal dimensions for pushing out pins etc. I've also used them to carve a few things and they've proved more useful than I initially expected. When changing the trigger guard I made a slightly mushroom shaped tip on one of the stamps, I'll admit they weren't the right tool to knock out a barrel pin but they did a great job and the soft brass was easy to change with one few blows from a brass hammer. They are soft for a reason! Nevertheless very satisfied!
