Review on πŸ’§ Zefal 164 Water Bottle: Durable 33 oz Container for Hydration by Michael Cleveland

Same outer size as Polar bottle but holds 9 ounces more water

Compared to the hugely popular Polar bottle, Zefal holds 9 ounces more water in the same outer size. See my side-by-side photo. The reason is that Polar is isolated and Zefal is not. They fit just as securely on my bike. I take both bottles on long bike rides (50+ miles). The wind from the movement of the bike will easily melt all the ice in an insulated Polar bottle in under an hour. So I drink from a bottle of Polar first. After the first hour, both bottles are at the same temperature and Zefal's larger volume becomes an advantage. I didn't have to stop along the way for supplies, at least not on the colder days. The extra 9 ounces isn't trivial, given that a can of Coke weighs 12 ounces and most bikes don't have room for a third bottle. Bicycle. Zefal has a slight plastic odor that goes away after a few uses. The cap is easier to clean than the CamelBak Podium as there are fewer crevices for mold to enter. I use a long handled brush to clean the inside of the bottle all the way out before squeezing it. The Polar bottle is much firmer, making it harder to get it in and out with my teeth, but it doesn't leak even if I take it halfway out.

Pros
  • Ideal for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
