Theoretically this is a great idea. In practice, however, some problems arise. First, the angle at which it's pointing at the phone makes it difficult to read from the driver's seat. When the tip is down, the screen will be washed out by sunlight. So I bent the bracket to get the best angle. This puts too much strain on the hand holding the holder and the ball breaks off. Second, the holder doesn't open wide enough to hold my iPhone 8 Plus in the case. It's mostly fine on city streets, but too many bumps and it falls out. Even with the lid off, it falls out if you shake it vigorously. So it doesn't work on the track at all. If the phone is narrower than mine, that might be ok. I found a way to fix a broken linkage lever using a drill, superglue, a small trim nail, and hot glue. I will make a video and update soon. I'm also trying to design a better connector and sphere in 3D. I'll also add a link to these files when I'm done.
