I bought this to store all my soft pastel supplies to use at home and easy to take with me on the go. I'm happy to say that it does both fairly well. I like the fact that everything always lies flat and it seems like all the supplies don't get mixed up. I have a large collection of pastels and instruments and most will fit in there. I couldn't put all my tools in there, but I could store them in a French easel. The wood is of good quality and looks well finished. It's definitely durable and I don't feel like it's going to fall apart. I feel safe, add extremely expensive pastels, and it's pretty easy to add my own layer of foam for protection. The only problem I've experienced in this case is that the top doesn't fully open. Due to the handle position, the top compartments can only be opened fully, making it difficult to access items in the back of the 2nd layer.
