There is some weight to this block. It's a bit small for big hands, but that's the size and type of block that's always been around. I cut out some cheap sandpaper and stuck it in a block and it held securely. The flaps lift easily, the nails are sharp and will poke through paper, and a stubborn thumb is fine. I like this block because the rubber is "alive" and has a suppleness, not a harshness. The bottom is smooth, there are no flatness problems. The block has no chemical smell.
