Zero Gap Insert Improves Table Saw Results

I'm a big fan of zero gap inserts. They really improve the haircut results. This deployment works well. I love the adjustment screws on the Bosch TS1005. You make a zero gap cut the normal way, placing a new insert when the blade is fully folded under the table and then slowly raising the blade as it runs to make a cut into the zero gap -to make use of. Initial installation takes five minutes, including fiddling with adjustment screws so they fit perfectly on your desk. This insert is made of plastic. While I might have preferred a metal insert, cutting a custom notch wouldn't be a good option. The plastic insert works perfectly. Besides, who needs a steel insert that practically touches your spinning, ultra-sharp woodworking blade? This is not the part of the saw that should ever carry much weight. The plastic insert is sufficient. There are two "cons" to this insert, while they don't detract from 5 stars: 1. You MUST replace this zero-gap insert with a standard insert every time you cut a bevel. This ONLY works when the angle between the blade and the table is 90 degrees.2. More sawdust will be left on the top of the saw. The zero clearance slot reduces this saw's dust holding capacity by half (when used with a vacuum cleaner). This isn't a problem if you have a dust collection above the saw - good for you! - but it is not common. This gapless insert is an economical way to improve the performance of your 10" Bosch 4100 worksite table saw. This can be a great birthday, Father's Day, Christmas or Hanukkah gift. Or just one of those great gifts to yourself because it makes a good saw that little bit better.
