As with any specialty tool, basic skill and common sense is required. I bought this to replace the valve stem on a large Flotec air-injected well water storage tank. Even if it were convenient to dump and drain the tank, human arms aren't long enough to reach in and reach the valve stem from behind. Therefore, this tool is absolutely essential for this job. I removed the old stem with a removal tool, which took some fiddling. The stem is cracked in the groove indicating rot so I'm glad it's being replaced now. I then lubricated the new stem with white lithium grease and slowly pushed it into the tube. For some reason I was afraid of going too far, so I stopped when I realized the stem was crooked and only partially inserted. I just pulled it back out and tried again until I felt it go right in. When I think about it, even if I press way harder than necessary, it all sticks to the tool. Simply pull it back through the hole until it clicks into place. My original stem could be turned in the hole with my fingers and I could see the bubbles with my leak detector. The new stem is VERY tight in the bore, despite the amount of grease used to install it. Very happy with the end result.
