After researching numerous leather products that the moleskine journals would work best with this one seemed the optimum choice. Out of the box everything was great. The journal, pen and business cards fit perfectly. After a bit the smell seemed to grow more intense vs. dissipate so rather than return it I started with leaving it out in the sun sprayed with vinegar, wrapping it in newspaper, soaking it in baking soda, industrial strength sporicidin (which seemed to work) and various other leather cleaners after the smell returned with a vengeance. Now I’m stumped. Love the design, the unique character of the leather after my "treatments” but no, it just smells of strong acidic mildew. It scented my business cards so badly people noticed it and the moleskine is now smelly as well. I’m bummed I didn’t return it before the odor exorcism and today will set it outside to see what happens over time. Not the first moldy item I’ve received, just the most relentless to treatment. Kudos to those of you who got a clean one!
