We actually used this small pool for the beach. It has a drain plug in one side so we just made sure to face it towards the water. We already had a couple sand castle buckets. The hardest part was carrying buckets of water from the ocean to fill the pool. The kids helped at first but then they just wanted to sit in the 6 inches of water while I filled the rest. The pool has is a heavy duty vinyl and the sides have hard sides that are in sections that allow it to be folded up rather quickly. The sides didn't fall down with only several inches of water but the sweet spot was about 6-10 inches. even with the sand and shell pieces it didn't puncture the pool and when we got home we cleaned out the sand and the kids enjoyed it again with just cold water from the faucet. Our dogs don't really like the water or baths so they cannot comment on how good it is for dogs. :-) When it was new we opened it in the kitchen and let a couple dogs jump in for size comparison.
