Review on 🐠 XINYOU Corner Filter Aquarium Fish Tank Internal Air Driven Filter with Media XY-2008 for AquaCity by Joy Miller

I purchased this filter for use in a quarantine tank to prepare for adding new fish to my main tank. I was hoping for an inexpensive setup that would be quick and easy to install and remove using a cyclic filter media and at first glance this filter ticked all the right boxes. When I received it I was mostly happy. I discarded the medium included in the basket as, as other reviews have pointed out, this medium consisted of several bio rings, a small amount of gravel, and chopsticks. It worked at first, but after a while, as I let air through the filter, I discovered an unexpected problem; Air bubbles began to accumulate under the top layer of mechanical filtration and then entered the basket of filter media so that the entire filter was one giant air bubble under the sponge layer. This was a big problem as the trapped air effectively killed all of my good bacteria. I tried several ways to solve the problem; I first purged and rebooted the system to see if it was a one-time problem, but the problem reappeared. I then tried a smaller volume air pump, thinking I might be blowing through too much air, but the filter kept bubbling no matter how much air it had. I also tried another spot in the tank, but no matter what I tried, air always ended up collecting in the filter and the only variable was how long it took for it to form. It's possible I have a filter with a pin hole or something like that in the intake pipe that is diverting some of the air into the filter, but whatever the reason I can't recommend this filter due to the air buildup issues I've been experiencing. not recommend. . I bought a small Lee's Triple Flow which I was very happy with and for just a few extra bucks it was probably the choice I should have made in the first place.
