I am a serious angler, fishing for striped bass from kayak and from shore, fly fishing and trolling for brown trout and salmon, ice fish - lake trout. This little device is a great tool. I first used it to fish lake trout through ice at a depth of 35 feet. I could see my jig (if I used a bigger jig the small ones would disappear) and watch the fish come up to check it out. When spring came I used it to tag floating salmon while trolling on the ice. Worked great, towed a few feet behind the boat. Good bottom definition and clear fish markings. I used it this summer when I was fishing vertical jigging for minke whales in water from 30ft to 150ft. It worked great and showed me exactly where the fish are stopping and where to focus in the water column. I like the portability and versatility. The only complaint is about 4 hours of battery life. On a day trip, be careful to tow the tpod when not needed to save a life.
