This is a greatly improved second generation lock. With the older version I installed, you had to find the correct colored wires in the wiring harness and connect them. Over time the magnet worked but the tailgate wouldn't close/open... and it was noisy. This device works on a plug and play basis. No wires to splice. Simply plug in the supplied adapter wiring harness and everything works as it should. It works and sounds like an OEM device.
