Good Portable Scanner

First I have to say be careful as listening to the scanner can be ADDICTIVE! Since I received mine it has been working almost 24 hours a day. But seriously, this is a very good scanner. Compact enough to be carried in your back pocket or stored in your car's cup holder. Very easy to use after you program it. However, programming can be a bit tricky. The instructions are not super clear. After reading the instructions several times, I learned how to program local police and fire frequencies into it. You don't need to know your local frequencies. It has a "Close Call" function that is always waiting for broadcasts. . However, the best way to use a scanner is to program "banks" with the specific frequencies you want to hear. This allows you to toggle specific banks on and off. For example I programmed bank 1 with my local city police station, bank 2 with the local fire department, bank 3 with the nearest suburban police station. Each bank can hold 10 frequencies, which is important because my local city police station, for example, has 6 different frequencies (TAC 1, 2, etc.). This may seem complicated now, but it is not at all. Oh I found all my local frequencies on the internet. [.] - good start. When I received the scanner, I put in standard AA alkaline batteries (not included). They lasted almost a week with almost non-stop use. When they died I went and bought Ni-MH batteries. The scanner charges the batteries when connected to AC power. Remember to switch the small switch in the battery compartment to Ni-MH when using Ni-MH batteries. The only negative I can point out is that it doesn't come with a car adapter (like a cigarette lighter plug). Therefore, you cannot turn on or charge the device in your car. If you use the power supply when using the device at home and only the battery in the car, it works well. I hope this helped. Have fun!
