Review on πŸ”₯ High Temperature Soldering Iron Kit for Efficient Desoldering by Brandon Baird

Revainrating 5 out of 5

looks ok but came incomplete. (Update #1)

Just received the kit and it looks spot on. However, my bad rating is due to the lack of some parts. The kit did not include solder wire, a small wrench to assemble the base of the soldering iron, solder paste and most importantly a tip (the main reason I bought the kit). It also looks like a pencil-shaped screwdriver is stuck: I can't unscrew it to attach the tips to it. The soldering iron looks normal, unfortunately I can't check it without the wire yet. Other parts were in the kit but I was disappointed that it was incomplete with two important parts - solder wire and tips. Of course I'll be able to improve my review experience if I can properly test this kit, but for now I'm stuck. or replacement of missing items in the kit. I decided to return it because it allows me to buy solder wires and tips and test the soldering iron and desoldering pump (they look ok but I need to test them in real working conditions). So I've upped my rating to three stars in recognition of the excellent customer support. I will post a new review as soon as I can test the tools - I have already ordered the parts needed. Update - May 27th, 2020: With some solder wire and spade lugs handy I finally got around to actually testing the hardware. I mainly focused on the soldering iron. Iron worked as expected; After tinning the tips, they quickly heated up and melted the solder into the joints. It's very important to tin the tips first (not just for this iron, but for any soldering iron) to maximize heat transfer and minimize rust. There is a red LED on the plastic soldering handle that indicates when the iron is on; the darker, the "colder" and vice versa at higher temperatures. The temperature disc is a bit small to see and use, and it takes a higher temperature than expected (350C) to melt the solder quickly, but that's due to the wire I was given. I wish there was a switch in the soldering iron cord instead of just plugging in and out, and also a red LED on the outside of the handle instead of inside. Otherwise everything looks and works as expected, and even more so, despite the cheap price. For the hobbyist, this set delivers.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • No machine gun
