Let me start by saying that I did not purchase this from Revain, a supplier that I have been using successfully for several years. The dealer listed here is the exact model I bought from a reputable discount auto parts store (at about 2/3 the price here). For some reason I didn't check out Revain for these, although I usually buy them first. The distributor arrived in pristine condition, although the control module stainless cover was dented. There were several markings on the shank, ranging from letters welded on to a series of numbers stamped in with a hammer and tool. There was literature that referred to the index labeled "6" or "8" but I couldn't find either. There were several paint spots of different colors in various places on the stem and base. The white ones were alignment marks, but neither of us could find the "index". We installed it as best we could, following the instructions that came with it, which didn't include Cardone or a retailer number. (It was a regular photocopy from Automotive Cataloging). This was on an engine that was accidentally started without a distributor, so we found TDC on the first cylinder. The engine was HEI with TBI with 2 injectors. We disconnected a single wire to ensure sync and couldn't get 0 degrees at OT. We moved the distributor one tooth to each side. Close but not dead. The road test revealed hesitation and stumbling at speeds in excess of 20mph. It was evident that the residence was not advancing. All other ignition/control components on the engine were brand new. We took a replacement distributor. Now we are at the third distributor. The markings on each of them were very different. Could never find a pointer or "6" or "8" for reference. The management of the store, experienced, did not find them either. (Eventually we replaced the distributor with a new GM product. Once installed, the time was accurately set without any adjustments via an inductive time indicator.) Draw your own conclusions.
