This ironing mat is a great heat blocker: when you iron for a long time at the highest setting, the base heats up to just above body temperature. at low temperatures. "Silicone" also gives off a very strong chemical odor when heated, so I suspect it's not 100% silicone. Mostly it just twists, but it's also easy to cut off. The design is less good: the bottom non-slip fabric is a different size than the silver top, and the tape edge is still a different size. I have yet to iron out the large crease that runs through the center of the mat, which somewhat limits its functionality. Considering the price and how well it blocks heat I think it's worth tearing off the binding and iron rest and resealing it properly so it lays flat.
