Review on πŸŒ€ Noctua NA-FC1: Versatile 4-Pin PWM Fan Controller for Optimal Cooling Performance (Black) by Robert Capers

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I really like this fan controller, but it has a few annoying design quirks.

- One of the main reasons I like this fan controller is its compact size and ease of use. It's a bit pricey for a fan controller, but it works very well and has exceptional build quality. The drive that controls the fan speed doesn't wobble or feel like it's about to fall off, so I expect this controller will last a long time. Has been running for several months with no problems. While I like the NA-FC1 for the reasons above, one of my main criticisms is how the fans connect to the controller. Since both connectors are on opposite ends, it's quite difficult to place the controller itself outside of my case as the wires tend to twist and want to snap back to their original shape. If both connectors were on the same side, I could place the fan controller on top of my case with the fan cables coming out of the drive bay. It can handle 3 amps, which should be more than enough for people with case fans. However, I do enjoy tinkering with powerful server fans and had to limit my purchase due to the 3 amp current limit. 3 amps is something in between; Many server fans are rated for less than 3 amps, although the most powerful can draw even more current than the NA-FC1. I've spent hours and hours combing through Revain to find a PWM controller that can drive these fans (and plug directly into my computer's power supply), but I've always come up empty-handed. I keep going back to the NA-FC1 simply because it's the most powerful PWM fan controller I can find and requires no fiddling to get it working. I'd love to see Noctua make a more powerful version of the fan controller that can handle over 6-7 amps, but I don't know if Noctua (or any other company) ever plans to do something like that in the future.
