I have owned quite a few battery chargers over the years. Anything from the old transformer based to the new switching supply units. I was looking for a quick, portable unit that doesn't weigh much (I can bring it around to vehicles, mower, etc) that is also somewhat waterproof in case it accidentally gets rained on. This one simply fit the bill.Pros:- Can be used on both 6 and 12V batteries.- Max current can be adjusted to your liking: 2 or 5 amps. I have found 5 amps to be the optimal max current you can charge a car battery on without removing caps and checking levels.- Real time voltage display that seems to be very accurate compared to my meter.- Bright charge status LED. I know. bright leds can be bothersome but in this case it is helpful - I can look and find out the status of the charging from 50 feet away if I wanted to.- Well sealed and appears to be at the very least water resistant. It shouldn't have any issues with drizzle or rain. That said, I probably wouldn't expect it to be able to handle water submerging (even if it does, it is a terrible idea to begin with).- Multiple clamps and connection options. Both the supply and charging cable seem to be great quality unlike other units that have thin and easy to damage wiring.I don't really have any cons. The charge performs great for what it does and I am very happy with it.Here are my other thoughts that can make this unit an exceptional value:- Add the actual current to the display. The processor inside already measures it in order to check levels of charge. It shouldn't be too hard to add another button and display it real time. I know most people probably won't care but it is a helpful feature. I would personally rather have this than a % charge display.- Add a supply option: feature to constantly supply 12-14V at the rated current. This way you can use it as a power supply or jump very discharged batteries that the unit may not recognize at first.- Having IP rating is great, however it completely cuts off air circulation. The unit does get warm at the 5A setting, especially if you start with a flat battery. With any electronics - heat in excess reduces longevity. This is pretty much a trade off; if you want IP rated unit, prepare for the fact that it might have reduced service life.
