Very hard emery, abrasive stays in place - won't clog
I've sharpened several types of steel on a lathe, it wasn't easy to find paper that would stick. The backing of the cloth is strong, heat-resistant, the abrasive stays on the surface and is not easy to clog. I was very impressed, works better than I expected. Give Lincoln Electric kudos for getting it right.
