Astro doesn't advertise the flange offset but I found another seller who claims it is .042" which is 19 gauge like on older cars. Exactly what I was hoping for. As it turned out, the offset was more like 20 gauge or 0.037 inches, maybe less. I haven't tried 1/4" air hose because they say at least 3/8". With this size and 100psi pressure, punching through an 18 gauge tool was no problem. It seems that flanking is best done with two shots. Maybe scrolling to 120psi would help. It leaves small "dents" on the outer edges of the instrument. I can try filing the corners but welding will still hide the dents. It also results in very little deflection along the flange.
